;D
The next thing I am getting for the project is a Transaxle . I gave the one I had away to a friend. So I am sure I will have to pay a core, but that is ok. All of you that have high performance motors, is there something that I should know, or maybe something you wish you had done? I think I am going to have someone here in Arizona locally build it for me. Do I need to go all out? Weekend driving, some of it will be highway, some will be track.. Motor wise.. 2110cc I believe. Maybe 2442cc...

I'm building a weekend warrior cal look with 2275 cc motor making a conservative 180 HP. I decided to go with a Berg 5 speed transmission. Actually, the trans was built in Phoenix by Steve Hollingsworth at VW Performance. Hopefully, I'll be able to tell you how it works out by Fall 2008.

Wow! I've been thinking about getting a 5 speed as well. I do have about 20 or so miles from my house of freeway driving before I really hit city limits. Isn't the price of a 5 speed about double? I've heard of Steve Hollingsworth.. let me know how it goes!

I think I may go with KCR out of California. I've heard they have some good trannys.. I don't know what modifications I will need to do if I got a 5 speed.. plus they are about $3000... about double...

OK! Fast forward to Feb 4th, 2008 - WOW! Finally. I trie dto get a hold of KCR today but no one wanted to answer their phones today. I talked with Bill here in PHX from VW transaxle exhange and he gave me a pretty good price on a built tranny.
Once I get this tranny, I am going to paint it orange as well, and polsihed the fins.. and get new chrome bolts for the entire thing.
Stay tuned! IT'S GONNA BE EXCITING!!!

hey everyone, I got a few things done this weekend on my car. Thought I would share with you guys. I painted the trans axle, the axle tubes along with the spring plates. I got a pair of the JCL spring plate retainers in polished and I had my spring plates painted with rattle can hammer tone paint. Couldn't leave it like that.. just didn't look right. So I painted the plates black. Used base/clearcoat. Came out great! The trans axle will go back to Bill at ATE and he is going to install the guts and install chrome studs and bolts. I can't wait for it to come back! Here are the spring plates. The sunset reflection says it all! Trans Axle painted new beetle Sundown Orange The shine is amazing! Spring plate retainers from JCL.

WOW! There is NO orange peel at all in the axle housing plates!! I love the SPs! Those look nice. They will look very good next to the black sp for sure.
That is one cool orange for sure. I'm telling ya - should have kept that under the radar. That is the next best color. Watch!

OK! Trans axle is done! And it is in the garage. I would have it installed by now, but I THOUGHT I had the centering tube gromment - but I can not find it. So I had to order one from Chirco. It should be here by Monday.. Oh well.. It will be done by next weekend for sure! Stay tuned!
